Stephan J. Pulka, 76, of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at his home.
He was born September 1, 1934, in Jackson, Mich., son of the late Joseph and Mary (Polka) Pulka. Stephan graduated from Jackson High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy as a machinist during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he married Alice Lehrke June 14, 1958, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Jackson. She survives.
They lived in Michigan Center, Mich., for a few years before moving to Milwaukee where Stephan attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. While residing in Milwaukee Stephan worked as a machinist for AC Spark Plugs, South Milwaukee. They later moved to Saukville where Stephan owned and operated Pulka Tool and Machine for twenty-two years, retiring in 1989. In 2000, Stephan and Alice moved to Florence and purchased the Forest Motel in Florence, operating it from 2000 to 2007 at which time they moved to Iron Mountain.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Saukville and the American Legion of Saukville where he served as Post Commander for many years. Stephan enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, watching Sunday football games, and the Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers.
Stephan is survived by his wife, Alice; three sons, Stephan Pulka, Minneapolis, Minn., Daniel (Mariliz) Pulka, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., James (Leslie) Pulka, Random Lake, Wis.; one daughter, Julie (Joel) Dorr, San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Alex (Dutch) Jackson, Tony (Ginny) Grass Lake, Mich.; one sister, Frances Curran, Spartanburg, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Teryn, Josh, Kelsey, Emily, Jada, and Jackson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bernie, Louis, John, and Joseph; two sisters, Josephine Harman, and Rosie Beaghan.
Visitation will be Friday, July 29, 2011, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 145 West Church Street, Saukville, WI 53080,
