Stanley "Slim" R. Wickman, 100, of Amasa passed away Friday, October 22, 2010, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
He was born April 2, 1910, in Marinette, Wis., son of the late Charles and Selma (Wallin) Wickman. In 1945 he married Jeanette Mahoski. She preceded him in death on November 13, 2002.
Slim was a timber cruiser for American Can and Patten Logging. He had also worked at Triangle Ranch as a young man. Slim was a member of the Amasa Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a good hardball baseball player entertaining offers to play in the minor leagues and played in Amasa.
Survivors include, one daughter, Bernadette (Richard) Smith; son-in-law, John (Janice) Martinson, all of Amasa; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bill (Jeanelle Maki) Hautala, Ashley and Zachary, all of Crystal Falls,;Heather (Christian) Todorov, Karina, Plymouth, Mich.; Todd (Marnie) Martinson, Annabella, all of Marquette; Anastasia (David) Johnson, Rusty and Halley, all of Iron River; one sister, Frances Wicklund, Blaine, Minn.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Donna Martinson, grandson, Brian Hautala, three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at Christ United Methodist Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Stephen Rhoades will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
