Shirley A. Peterson, 74, of Darboy, Wis., formerly of Florence, Wis., passed away Monday, September 8, 2008, at Colony Oaks Care Center, Appleton. She was born June 26, 1934, in Florence, daughter of the late Volney and Lillian (Nelson) Vassar. Shirley graduated from Florence High School in 1952. She married Russ Peterson on June 14, 1952, at the First Presbyterian Church, Florence. They resided briefly in West Allis, Wis. and North Dakota, before moving to Neenah, Wis. where they resided for 22 years. They moved to Florida where they resided for 22 years before moving to Darboy, Wis. where they have resided since. Shirley was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Florence. She enjoyed cooking, baking, flowers, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Russ; three daughters, Vickie (Leon) Schmalz, Tallahassee, Fla., Lori (David) Wolf, Appleton, Wis., Joni Young, Clintonville, Wis.; one brother, Volney Vassar, Florence; three sisters, Valeria Fraumini, Iron Mountain, Mich., Lois DuCharme, Mena, Ark., Linda (Morris) Erickson, Aton, N.H.; four grandchildren, Matthew and Emily Wolf, Steve and Kyle Young; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Terry; three sisters, Edna Woods, Nell Hogan, and Marian Anderson.
