Obituary

Niagara-Sharon A. Ponzio, age 76, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Maryhill Manor, Niagara, Wis. She was born February 28, 1943, in Kingsford, Mich., daughter of the late Otto L. and Julia (Lacni) Lambert. At the age of 10 Sharon started playing the organ at St. Mary Queen of Peace Church, Kingsford. Sharon grew up in Kingsford and was a graduate of Kingsford High School, class of 1961. She attended St. Mary Nursing College in Milwaukee, Wis. Following nursing school, she worked for an architectural firm as a secretary in Milwaukee. On February 26, 1972 she was united in marriage to Raymond Ponzio at St. Mary Queen of Peace Church. Following marriage, they resided in Niagara. While in Niagara, Sharon founded an employment agency and later owned and operated R.J.S. Printing Company with Ruth Connis and Judy Goudreau in Niagara and in 1995 owned and operated Julia Rose Bridal Shop in Iron Mountain. Sharon was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she also played the organ and was a member of the St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women. She served on the Parish Council and the Liturgical Council and had started the youth choir. Sharon was also a member of Women's Club-Niagara, Zonta International, founding member of the Niagara Theatre Group, Niagara Historical Society, and the ice-skating club in Niagara. Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, Raymond Ponzio, Niagara, Wis.; two daughters, Anne Marie (Kevin) Shirley, Los Angeles, Calif., and Christina (Brad) Crook, Oshkosh, Wis.; one sister, Laverne Bauer, Cummings, Georgia; four grandchildren, Bryce, Liam, Donovan, and Zachary; special friends, Jeri and Roger Allen, Niagara; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by one son, Phillip; and by two brothers, Robert "Ham" Lambert and Lewis Lambert. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at the church. Rev. Fr. Michael Lightner will officiate. St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women will offer a prayer at the church. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.
