Sandra L. Powell, 60, of Iron Mountain, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital of Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 20, 1947, in Marquette, Mich., daughter of the late Robert and Angeline (Johnson) Fingel. Sandra married Michael S. Powell on October 22, 1966, in Marquette, Mich. She is survived by her husband, Michael; one daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Podgornik, Ladysmith, Wis.; two sons, Scott Powell, Iron Mountain, Jeffery (Shannon) Powell, Huntley, Ill.; two sisters, Gail Fingel, Marquette, Dianne (Kim) Peterson, Trenary, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey, Ciara, Michael, Nathan, Ellison, Jacob; and many nieces and nephews. Sandy's life was her family and she was so proud to be a grandmother. She loved to make sure that everyone was fed and full. She also loved spending time at her place on Lake Hilbert. Sandy recently mastered the hobby of knitting. She will forever be in our hearts; her spirit will live on forever with all of her family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 19, 2007, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be offered Thursday, December 20, 2007, 9:30 AM, at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 10:00 AM, at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Moll will officiate.
