Obituary

Kingsford- Sandra P. Barker, 80, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson, Iron Mountain, Mich.

Sandra "Sandy" Barker (maiden name Johnson), a woman known for her warmth, independence, and gift for making everyone feel like a friend, was born on January 1, 1946, in Marquette, Michigan. She was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Genore) Johnson. Sandy grew up in Munising, where she attended school and developed the roots of a life centered on family, kindness, and quiet strength.

Sandy found joy in life's simple and meaningful moments. She loved watching movies, gardening, and tenderly caring for her roses. An avid bird watcher and a master cribbage player, she also enjoyed sewing, always ready to fix something with care and patience. Baking was one of her love languages, especially when it came to making special treats like her famous banana bread for her grandson.

Family was the heart of Sandy's world. She cherished time spent with her loved ones and especially delighted in playing with her great-grandbabies. To Ariel and Athena, she wasn't just a great-grammy, she was the greatest Grammy. Sandy had a remarkable way of striking up friendly conversations with just about anyone, leaving people feeling lighter for having met her.

She was strong, fiercely independent, and carried herself with quiet confidence. Sandy loved to travel with her late husband, Mike, with whom she shared many cherished adventures. Though Mike passed away in 1996, her love for him remained a constant part of her life.

Sandra is survived by her children, Bill (Kazuko) Davis of Henderson, Nevada, and Debra Lantagne of Kingsford, Michigan; her grandson, Trevor (Tareeya) Lantagne; and her great-granddaughters, Ariel and Athena Lantagne. She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Alice Johnson; her beloved husband, Mike; and her brother, Chuck "Charlie" Johnson.

In accordance with Sandra's wishes, private family services will be held.
