Obituary

Rudolph "Rudy" Gustave Nyholm, 74, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Sunday, November 16, 2008, in Crystal Falls. He was born December 12, 1933, in Crystal Falls, son of Julia and Rudolph Nyholm, Sr. Rudy was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Crystal Falls schools, graduating in 1952. After graduation he proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, returning to the Crystal Falls area in 1957. On December 30, 1954, Rudy married the former JoAnn Colien in Gaastra, Mich. They made their home in Crystal Falls. Rudy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything. Rudy was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was an excellent hunter, fisherman and enjoyed several trips to the great state of Alaska. Rudy was an avid Packers fan and loyal fan of the Forest Park Trojans. He worked for the Milwaukee Road, Wisconsin Central, and the Canadian National Railroad as a locomotive engineer retiring in 1990. Rudy was a faithful member of the United Lutheran Church, an active member of the Crystal Falls-Iron River Masonic Lodge #385, where he served as Master in 1985 and most recently served as Chaplain. He was also a member of the Ahmed Shrine Club and Inter-State Shrine Club, an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star #250 of Crystal Falls, where he served as Chaplain, and a member of the Louis Bowman American Legion Post #87. Rudy will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, JoAnn; three daughters, Nancy (Scott) Kenney, Diana (Charles) Nordeman, Crystal Falls; Karen (Joseph) Puccio, Cottage Grove, Wis.; one son, Eric (Patricia) Nyholm, Seward, Ala.; ten grandchildren, Christina (Jeremy) Maki, Robert Kenney, Thomas (fiancé, Janna Bjorkman), Megan and Anna Nordeman, Matthew, Joseph and Christyna Nyholm, Alyssa and Dominic Puccio; one brother, Earl (Christie) Otchingwanagin, Crystal Falls; one sister-in-law, Judith Nyholm, Crystal Falls; several nieces and nephews and his special dog, Sunny. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Iver and his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Viola Colien. Visitation will be Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, a Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The funeral service will be Friday, November 21, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. There will be a Pass In Review by the East Side Veterans Council at 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls. Pallbearers will be Scott Kenney, Charles Nordeman, Joe Puccio, Bob Kenney, Thomas Nordeman, Jer Maki, and honorary pallbearers, Matthew and Joseph Nyholm.
