Rudolph 'Rudy' M. Ballo, 92, of Crystal Falls, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011, at NorthStar Health System hospital in Iron River.
He was born May 11, 1919, in Crystal Falls, son of the late John and Mary (LaBay) Ballo. On October 23, 1944, he married Elayne Kania in Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2000.
Rudy grew up and attended school in Crystal Falls. In 1937, at the age of seventeen, he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army and was a Life Member of the Tufts-Rondon Post No. 2891 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Crystal Falls and the Crystal Falls Lions Club. Rudy was a retired carpenter and was a 60 year member of the Carpenters Union Local 1510.
Survivors include, one daughter, Suzan (Lynn Shuck) Ballo, Crystal Falls; two grandsons, Benjamin Ballo-Shuck, Daniel Ballo-Shuck; one sister, Helen Johnson, Crystal Falls; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents and wife, Rudy was preceded in death by his siblings, Matilda Ballo, Anna Golden, John Ballo, and Irene Tuchowski.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2011, at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. The East Side Veterans Council will conduct a Pass-In-Review ceremony 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will include, Ben Ballo-Shuck, Dan Ballo-Shuck, Peter Paramski, and Peter Maloney.
