Ruby (Kranz) Stafford, 86, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Friday, February 11, 2011, at Hyland Nursing Home, Iron Mountain.
She was born on December 27, 1924, in High Wycombe, England, daughter of the late Fred and Edna (Anderson) Gibbons. Ruby grew up in England and married Phillip Kranz in 1943, in England. They moved to Iron Mountain in May of 1946 and later to Norway in 1956. She was very proud of coming over on the Queen Mary and being a war bride. Phillip preceded her in death in 1990. Ruby married Fred Stafford on November 2, 1991, in Caspian. They lived in Iron River for a short time before moving to Norway in 2002, and later to Kingsford in 2005.
Ruby enjoyed many hobbies including collecting stamps, gardening, painting with water colors, sewing, camping, singing old war songs, dancing, and playing the organ and harmonica. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; two sons, Rodney (Sharlene) Kranz, Grayslake, Ill., Barry Kranz, Lower Michigan; two step-sons, Daniel (Marvis) Stafford, Michael Stafford, both of Iron River; one daughter, Karen Lynd, Marquette, Mich.; three step-daughters, Carmeleen (Joe) Eichhorn, Colo., Cathleen Nordby, Wis., Colleen Reynolds, Wis.; one sister, Eva Jean Scattergood, England; five grandchildren, Patsy (Craig) Romback, Michael (Vicki) Raatz, Lynda (Chris) Dimity, Brad (Stacie) Cowling, Michael (Naomi) Kranz; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by two sons, Vernon and Darryl Kranz; one daughter, Valerie Cowling; one brother, Charles Gibbons; one sister, Joan Hayward.
Visitation will be Monday, February 14, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery.
