Obituary

Amasa: Roy A. Koski, age 76, of Amasa, died Friday July 1, 2005 at the Dickinson County Hospital, Iron Mountain. He was born March 13, 1929 in Amasa, son of the late Jack and Fanny (Saario) Koski. Roy was a retired assembly worker for the Magiglide door manufacturing company. He also farmed, enjoyed his animals, hunting, trapping and was an accomplished fishing guide. Roy was active in his community in many areas including as a Tourism Director for the Iron County Extension office; charter member of the Amasa Area Snowmobilers Club, Iron County Snowmobile Association, MUPSA, authored a book on the Amasa Centennial, was a member of the National and Michigan Upper Peninsula Trappers Association, the U.P. Sport and Fur Rendezvous Association, charter member and served as Vice Chairman of the Upper Peninsula Citizens Concerned about Sanguine, and a member of the Advisory Committee to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in relation to the snowmobile system. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tufts - Rondon Post No. 2891, Crystal Falls, a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, and a member the the 5th RCT Association. Sergeant Koski was the recipient of the Purple Heart for action in Kumwha, North Korea on October 13, 1951 and was also awarded the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze camp Star and the UN Service Medal. He was a member of the Order of the Purple Heart. Survivors include two brothers, Donald Koski, Tomah, Wisc., Larry Koski, Amasa; five sisters, Norma Jarvis, Amasa, Ruth Cermak, Iron River, Wilma (Conrad) Olson, Amasa, Donna (Brian) Connally, Green Bay, Wisc. And Sharon Zimny, Amasa. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Viola Lange and two brothers, Arthur Koski and Jack Koski. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Amasa. Rev. Fred Kinsey will officiate. Burial will be in the Hematite Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12: 00 p.m. until the time of services at the church.
