Roy E. Harshman, 76, of Channing, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette.
He was born on February 18, 1935, in Menomonie, Wis., son of the late Clarence and Laura (Christensen) Harshman. Roy grew up and attended school in Menominee. He married Janet Donaldson in 1957. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2004.
While being married, Roy and Janet resided in Racine, Wis., where Roy worked at Wiscon Products for many years. They moved to Iron Mountain in 1981, and in 1988 moved to Channing. He also worked for the Verso Mill in Quinnesec as a security guard.
Roy was an active member of the Iron Mountain VFW Post No. 3674 and could be found bartending and always helping out the local club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and will always be known for his love for people and making them laugh.
He is survived by one daughter, Dawn (Jeffrey) Myers, Channing; three sisters, Hazel Engeldinger, Menominee, Mae Parr, Mesa, Ariz., Pauline Lesik, Cudahy, Wis.; two grandchildren, Amy (Ted) Rogers, Wausaukee, Wis., Melissa (Nathaniel) Tobias, Ishpeming, Mich.; nine great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jeffrey, Desiree, Taylor, and Trever, Dylan, Brianna, Derek, Jeremiah; many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and friends.
Besides his parents and wife, Roy was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Clair, Ben, and Paul; one sister, Ellen Johnston .
Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2011, from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The VFW Post No. 3674 will accord military honors 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held Thursday 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. James Danielson will officiate. Burial will be in Channing Cemetery, Channing.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Donaldson, Nathaniel Tobias, Ted Rogers, Nathan Wontor, Butch Rouse and Jamie Donaldson.
