Obituary

Rose E. Sovey, 81, was taken to be with the Lord on Monday, April 4, 2011 at Manor Care Health Services, Kingsford. She quietly passed away with family at her side. Rose formerly lived at 1505 W. "B" Street in Iron Mountain until the last two and one-half years when she became debilitated with Parkinson's Disease and was a resident of Manor Care. Through the entire two and one-half years, Ray faithfully visited daily, staying with her from early morning through the afternoon. Rose's exceptional care givers include her brother and sister-in-law, Fadel and Mary Alice George and family; niece Tina Francis, cousins Barbara Marinelli and Rose Marie Jayne; sister-in-law, Kathleen Fayas; her dedicated doctor and family friend, Dr. Donald Jacobs and the staff at Manor Care. But this is only a few among the number of relatives and friends that extended a helping hand, more than once, in her time of need. For this, the family is especially grateful. Rose was born on March 28, 1930 in Iron Mountain, the daughter of Fadel and Mary (Swor) George. She had five siblings, Charlotte, Georgette, Fadel, Jr., Robert and Duane. Rose married Raymond Sovey at St.Mary and St. Joseph's Church in Iron Mountain. They have one son, James (Jim), and two grandsons, Mathew and Jacob, all of this city. Her grandsons were "the apple of her eye" and she loved them dearly. Rose was a very special and kind lady and she will be deeply missed. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School with the Class of 1947. In 1946 she began employment with Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator advancing to the head desk clerk. Rose is survived by her husband, Raymond; her son, James and her dear grandsons, Matt and Jake. Further, by her brother and sister-in-law Fadel and Mary Alice George; brother, Duane and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Marvin Fayas; many nieces, nephews and cousins including special niece, Tina (Mike) Francis, special cousins, Barbara Swor Marinelli and Rose Marie (Melvin) Jayne; other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fadel and Mary George; aunts and uncles including the closest, Helen and Jack Swor; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte (Walter) Gustafson, all of Iron Mountain; sister and brother-in-law, Georgette (George) Rovge of Milwaukee, Wis.; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Robert (Cheryl) George of Allison Park, Pa. Other deceased family members include Rose's father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Helen Sovey; sister-in-law-and brother-in-law, Delores and Dominec Chiapusio and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Dolores Sovey and other family members. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Iron Mountain. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Orthodox Church with Father Mark Hagan presiding. Interment will be held at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date.
