Ronald L. Smith, 80, of Fence, Wis., passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009, at Hoffmann's Paradise, Armstrong Creek, Wis.
He was born October 5, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wis., son of the late Ronald and Elsie (Nieman) Smith. He married the former Elizabeth Toth on October 4, 1958, in Milwaukee. Ronald served in the United States Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict. He was a police officer in Milwaukee and Appleton, Wis. for a short period of time before moving to Fence in 1960.
Ronald served on the Florence County School Board, was a Town of Fence Chairman and Treasurer, and was an assessor for numerous townships in Wisconsin. He enjoyed hunting, spending time with his family, and especially farming. His family still owns and operates the farm today.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Smith; two sons, Frank (Theresa) Smith, Fence, Doug (Heidi Erickson) Smith, Florence; two daughters, Karen (Ronald) Hoffmann, Armstrong Creek, Patricia (Dan) Bruders, New Berlin, Wis; one brother, Merlin Smith, Milwaukee; two sisters, Geraldine (Lauren) Helmers, Waukesha, Wis., Shirley (Patrick) Gerrits, Muskego, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Frank Smith, David Smith, Vicki Smith, Lance Hoffmann, Desiree Hoffmann, Wade Hoffmann, Sarah Bruders, Marie Bruders, and Tonya (Jason) Altmann; three great-grandchildren, McKenna, Lilly, and Savannah; many nieces, and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by one son, David Smith; two brothers, Arthur and Harvey Smith.
