Romeo J. Plouffe, age 96, of Crystal Falls, Mich., and formerly of Lowell, Mass.,died Friday evening, January 6, 2006 at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River, Mich.
He was born March 2, 1909 in Lowell son of the late Ernest and Eugeni (Bellemare) Plouffe. On August 17, 1931 in Lowell he married Lillian Brunet. She preceded him in death on November 8, 1976.
Romeo worked in the Boston Shipyards prior to the war and then was a butcher in family groceries and meat markets for many years. He also worked for the Raytheon Corporation in Massachusetts prior to his retirement. Romeo was a member and past president of the Passe-Temps Club of Lowell. He moved to Crystal Falls from Lowell in 1998 and lived at the Pleasant Valley Apartments until 2001 and then was admitted to the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita (Bud) West, Crystal Falls; three grandchildren, Kenneth (Vicki) West, Kim (Patrick) Olson, Karrie (Michael) Fabri; seven great grandchildren, Summer Olson, Krystle Olson, Samantha Olson, Emily West, Amy West, Rachel West and Michael Fabri. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lillian Plouffe; three brothers, Ovide, Victor and Raoul Plouffe; six sisters, Geralda Plouffe, Laura Cote, Emma Edmond, Georgette Breton, Jeannette Brunet and Rose DeProfio.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the church. Rev. Fr. Ray Valerio will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lowell at a later date.
Pallbearers are Bud West, Ken West, Patrick Olson, Ray West, Chris West and Jeff West.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Iron County Medical Care Facility or Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls.
