Florence- On August 10, 2026, Robert Raymond Theer, 87, of Florence, Wisc., surrounded by his loving family, was carried on the wings of an angel to the home of his heavenly father.
He was born at home in Davenport, Iowa, on October 17, 1938, son of the late Raymond and Florence (Cooper) Theer. Robert was a graduate of Davenport Senior High School and Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, where Robert met the love of his life, Susan Deutschmann. After graduation, Robert enlisted in the United States Marines and served from 1961 until 1965 achieving the rank of Captain. During his enlistment he earned many awards including; Platoon Honor Man, Series Honor Man and the Dress Blues award. He held the Series record for physical conditioning and was at the top of the all Series Honors in the rugged field finals.
On December 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Susan Jean Deutschmann and remained married for 63 years. Following marriage, they resided in San Clemente, CA, Lake Forest, IL, and Florence, WI.
Robert worked for Sears Roebuck for 15 years and then as a Director for Quill Corporation for 6 years. He worked 2 ½ years at the Wheeler Group Division of Pitney Bowes in Hartford, Connecticut, and for 5 years as the Vice President of Reliable Corporation in Chicago. Robert also worked for Henry Schien Inc. in New York and was later a consultant for Sears Roebuck and Company in Schaumburg, Ill.
Robert was a hard-working family man who took great pride in his three children who he raised with his wife Susan in Lake Forest, Illinois. He then retired to Florence, Wis., where he was a meticulous steward of the family property, Deerpath Farms, in Spread Eagle, Wis.
He taught his grandchildren the importance of caring for the tree farm land, but the lessons he passed down went far beyond the property itself. Through his example, he instilled in them strong morals and values, a deep appreciation for hard work, responsibility, family, and respect for the land. Those lessons have become an important part of his legacy and will continue to be carried on for generations to come.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Theer; children Robert (Laura) Theer, Amy Theer, Timothy (Virginia) Theer; grandchildren Brooke (Collin) Boldt, Robert (Claire) Theer, Zachary (Savannah) Theer, Hannah Theer, Paolo Lenzi; great-grandchildren Beckett Boldt, Mildred Boldt, Harper Theer, Ford Theer, Hadley Theer. Brother-in-laws: Rudy (Jane) Deutschmann, Mark (Karleen) Deutschmann, Nieces and Nephews: Richard, Cathy, Kelly, Bob, Brad, Tracy, Mark, Heidi, Gretchen, Sarah and Adam.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Edward Theer; sister, Barbara Murphy; niece, Terry Murphy; and his beloved dog, Wolfie.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence, WI, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
