Robert John Spade, 70, of Commonwealth, Wis., passed away Friday, October 29, 2010, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on September 14, 1940, in Niagara, Wis., son of Jacob and Mabel (Genrick) Spade. Robert graduated from Niagara High School, Class of 1959. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and spent three years in Germany. Robert married Elizabeth DeClark on March 11, 1972.
After his years served in the army, Robert returned to Niagara and was employed at Kimberly Clark Paper Mill until he started his career in auto body mechanics. He was a member of the American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post No. 50, Iron Mountain. Robert was an avid Packers fan and enjoyed watching football. Robert also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and especially spending time with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Beth Spade, Commonwealth; five children, Dale (Kim) Spade, Norway, Mich., Tracy (Donald) Shampo, Niagara, Tina (Gaylord Scott) White, Florence, Jacob (Pam) Spade, Commonwealth, and Kim (Dave) Schmudlach, Oshkosh, Wis.; mother, Mabel Spade, Niagara; three siblings, Barbara (Rick) Smith, Richard (Mary) Spade, and Gary (Kathy) Spade, all of Niagara; eleven grandchildren, Justin, Cody, and Brandon Spade, Brittany Dertz, Ross Shampo, Stephen and Ashelyn White, Tyler Spade, Skye, Katlin, and Alex Schmudlach; many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Spade.
The visitation will be Tuesday, November 2, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the First Covenant Church, Iron Mountain. The American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson Post No. 50 will conduct a veterans memorial service 10:45 a.m. at the church. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Peter Erickson will officiate. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
