Obituary

Robert V. McLain, age 86, of Fence, WI died Saturday, June 21, 2003 at his home. Robert was born on September 17, 1916 in Commonwealth, WI, son of the late James and Ethel (Hanmer) McLain. Bob grew up and attended school for a couple of years in Fence. He later went on to attend Wisconsin School for the Blind in Janesville, Wisconsin, and graduated from there in 1936. Bob belonged to several bands including the Four Blind Mice and was a band leader. He married Charlotte Durley on May 24, 1943 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, she preceded him in death on October 5, 1999. Bob and Charlotte moved back to Fence in 1971. Robert worked as a piano tuner in Chicago from 1949 until 1970 for the Board of Education in Chicago retiring from there. He was a lifetime member of the Local Union 10 of the American Federation of Musicians. Bob was famous for playing the violin, saxophone and clarinet. He is survived by: three sons James (Linda) McLain of Kingman, AZ., Timothy (Dallys) McLain of Carol Stream, IL., Michael McLain of Independence, Missouri. One daughter: Mary (Armond) Martin of Pembroke, Georgia. Six Grandchildren and Two Great Grandchildren. Preceded by his parents, his wife Charlotte, two brothers, and three sisters. Visitation will be Wednesday June 25, from 4-7PM at the Fence Town Hall in Fence, Wisconsin, and Thursday from 1:30-2PM at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Armstrong Creek. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday 2PM at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Armstrong Creek. Fr. Edward Nowakowski will officiate. Burial will be in the Fence Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Robert's memory.
