Niagara:
Robert J. MacKinnon, age 81, of Niagara, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2005, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette, Mich.
He was born January 16, 1924, in Niagara, the son of the late James and Mary (Gunns) MacKinnon. On August 9, 1950, he married Dorothy Rule in Iron Mountain. She survives.
Robert was a lifelong resident of Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II and received an honorable discharge. He worked for the Niagara Paper Mill for over 40 years as a material handler.
He enjoyed watching the Drum and Bugle Corp. competitions for many years, and was also very active in the Dickinson County Racing Association. He was also a member of the Cretton-Tutas-Johnson Post 136 American Legion of Niagara. Robert enjoyed camping and was an avid Packer fan and liked to attend all of the local sporting events in the Niagara area.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, one son Murl (Susan) MacKinnon of Stoughton, Wis., one daughter Jonelle (Allan) Yelle of Sands, Mich., five grandchildren Leah, Rachele, Shelley, Bobbi Jo, and Brad, three great-grandchildren Casie, Robert, and Sheila, and two special friends Margaret Badini and Lynn Heid of Iron Mountain.
Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by one daughter Marliss on September 1, 1961, and one brother Raymond Denis.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 2, 2005, from 1-3p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home Niagara Chapel. The American Legion will offer a Veterans Memorial Service Wednesday at 2:45p.m.
Memorials can be made to the Dickinson County Racing Association in Robert's name.
