Robert P. Hosking, age 83, of Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain, MI, former resident of Hulst Manor, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Robert was born May 25, 1920, in Iron Mountain, MI, son of the late Thomas and Matilda (Cowling) Hosking.
He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1938. From 1941 to 1945, he went into the Air Force and served overseas twenty-two months in Java, New Guinea, and Australia. Robert served in many battles including Papua Guadalcanal, Western Pacific, Philippine Islands, and East Indies Air Offensive Japan. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Tech Sergeant. In 1947, Robert married Beverly Bouffiou. She preceded him in death on March 26, 1996.
Robert owned Hosking Tire Company for thirty-four years and retired in 1975. He then
worked as a custodian at Hulst Manor. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Iron Mountain. He also was a member of the Lions Club, American Legion, VFW, and U.CT. Robert was honored as "Citizen of the Year" by Bresnan Communications and was presented with the certificate by Hilary Clinton in Escanaba.
Robert is survived by one son Ronald (Sandy) Hosking of Iron Mountain, MI, one daughter JoAnne Pugh of Iron Mountain, MI, one brother Thomas (Leona) Hosking of Kingsford, MI, eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Margaret Hosking of Hulst Manor and a very special friend Joyce Muterspaugh of Hulst Manor in Iron Mountain.
Along with his parents and wife Beverly, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers Edwin and Richard Hosking and two sisters Maria Paquin and Ruth Jones and a son-in-law Kenneth Pugh.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 15, 2003, from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home
in Iron Mountain, MI. Funeral service will be Monday 11:00a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. Pastor Meredith Rupe and Pastor Steven Cowen will concelebrate. Burial will be at Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
