Obituary

Robert A. Hill, 79, of Kingsford, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain. He was born on June 10, 1931, in Kingsford, son of the late Robert S. Hill and Christine "Toots" (Peterson) Gasbarro. Bob married Dolores Wepsala on September 10, 1955, at the First Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain; she survives. Bob lived in Chicago before moving to Iron Mountain where he attended Iron Mountain High School and graduated in the Class of 1949. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954, when he was honorably discharged. After their marriage, Bob and Dolores resided in Detroit, Munising, and moved to Kingsford in 1962. Bob worked for the Breitung Twp. School System as a junior high teacher from 1962 until retiring in 1986. Bob had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He also enjoyed spending time at the Crystal Lake Community Center where he would swim, sauna, and socialize with friends. Bob especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, EAA Chapter 439, Kiwanis Ski Club, and the American Legion Carpenter Clash Post No. 363, Kingsford. Bob is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Dolores Hill; four daughters, Lynn (Jeff) Iverson, Kingsford, Carrie (Mark) Rollenhagen, Interlochen, Mich., Sally Santi, Kingsford, Kristen (Jeff) Pearson, Kingsford; one step-sister, Marge (Ed) Simbob, Quinnesec; nine grandchildren, Allyssa (Sam) Blazier, Matt and Chris Iverson, Emily Rollenhagen, Brian Rollenhagen, currently serving in Iraq, Anthony, Paul, and Celeste Santi, Tom Sgrecci; one great-grandson, Kyle Blazier, and many cousins. The visitation will be Friday, November 12, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain. The Kingsford Carpenter Clash American Legion Post No. 363 will conduct a veteran's memorial service Friday 4:45 p.m. at the church. Funeral services will be Friday, 5:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. James Chinery will officiate. Burial will be in Breitung Twp. Cemetery, Quinnesec. Memorials in Bob's memory can be made to the First Lutheran Church.
