Robert J. Barbeau, 89, of Kingsford, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain.
He was born July 19, 1919, in Escanaba, Mich., son of the late James and Evangeline (Cayer) Barbeau. Robert married the former Mary Gouley, she preceded him in death. He then married the former Claire Marie Rumpf, she preceded him in death.
Robert served in the United States Army during World War II from 1940 until 1945. He was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. Robert worked for Clairmont Transfer for many years before retiring. He owned Twin City Cab Company in Iron Mountain from 1969 to 1983. Robert also worked for the Dickinson County Sheriff Department as the animal control officer.
He enjoyed many hobbies including, hunting, fishing, motorcycling, and crafts.
He is survived by his two sons, William Barbeau, Green Bay, Wis., Mark (Rebecca) Barbeau, Iron Mountain; one daughter, Mary Anne Pientkewic, Green Bay; one sister, Leona Barbeau, California; grandchildren, Jordan, Justin, Dawn, Patti, Melissa, Aaron, Douglas; many great-grandchildren; long time friend, Hazel Stachowicz and her family, who meant so much to Robert; nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by one son, Robert Barbeau, Jr.; two sisters, Louella Johnivan, Virginia LaChapple; three brothers, Ivan, Francis, and John.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 25, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The funeral service will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Ray Valerio will officiate.
A memorial will be established in Robert's memory.
