Iron Mountain-Richard G. Steele Jr., age 80, of Granite Bluff, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, January 25, 2019 at Dickinson County Healthcare System surround by family, after a long 27 year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Prior to going into the hospital Richard resided at Florence Health Services, Florence, WI for the past 18 months where he received exceptional care.
He was born December 30, 1938, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Richard and Margaret (Jacobson) Steele Sr. Richard was a lifelong member of Iron Mountain and attended Kingsford School. On June 18, 1960, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Wilber at the First Covenant Church, Iron Mountain. Richard worked as a machine operator for Grede Foundry, Kingsford for over 34 years, retiring in May of 2001 and was a member of First Covenant Church, Iron Mountain.
He enjoyed anything with a motor on it, motorcycles, go-carts, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, tractors, farm equipment, rifle and bow hunting, fishing and hobby farming. Richard enjoyed operating his motorboat and popping wheelies with his lawnmower around Granite Bluff. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Myrtle; two daughters, Lori Ann (Rich) Krahl, Denver, Colo. and Julie Lynn (Kyle) Erickson, Granite Bluff; one son-in-law, Randall Samson, Tucson, Arizona; one sister, Ann Russett, Granite Bluff; four grandchildren, Wendy, Ryan (Christy), Kylah, and Joseph; three great-grandchildren, Chad, Gaige, and Gabriel; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gini Steele, Granite Bluff, Verna (Bill) Wilmer, Beloit, Wis. and Clarice (Rudy) Pilot, Peshtigo, Wis.; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one brother, Dave Steele; one brother-in-law, Craig Russett; one nephew, Adam Steele; and his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Violet (Miller) Wilber.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the First Covenant Church, Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be on Thursday, 5:00 p.m. at the church. Pastor Larry Neargarth will officiate.
