Richard D. Grenier, 71, of Norway passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born November 10, 1941, in Hermansville, Mich., son of the late Richard and Virginia (Recla) Grenier. Richard grew up in Hermansville and graduated from Hermansville High School, Class of 1959. Richard served in the National Guard from June 20, 1959, to March 1, 1967. He married Barbara Trepanier on June 3, 1961, at St. Barbara Catholic Church, Vulcan. They resided in Hermansville for a few years before moving to Norway.
Richard worked for Lodal Incorporated in the early 1960s, Clare Bedding, Hermansville, drove truck for Schomer, Neal Barglind and Michaud and later worked installing pulp loaders at Schultz Equipment.
Richard was an active member of St. Barbara Catholic Church; he served on a crew at the Norway Speedway in the early 70s and was an assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, going to camp and watching the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. Richard could always be found at a local sporting event where his children or grandchildren had been playing, traveling near or far it did not matter, he was always there.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Barbara; three sons, Mark (Cathy) Grenier, Vulcan, Steven (Melissa) Grenier, Green Bay, Wis., and Paul (Renee) Grenier, Quinnesec, Mich.; one sister, Melanie (Ross) Nord, Norway; one brother-in-law, Jerry (Martee) Trepanier, Iron Mountain; nine grandchildren, Eryk (Cassandra), Kymberly, Anthony (Nicolette), Hailey, Taylor, Rhiannon, Brian, Cole, Brock; four great grandchildren, Brianna, Blake, Owen, and Aristen; two nephews, Ryan and Derek; one niece, Leah; one adopted son, Tom Moore, who lived with the family for over a year.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son John Grenier.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 8, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Barbara Catholic Church, Vulcan. The Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, 12:00 p.m. at the church. Fr. Timothy Ekaitis will officiate. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery, Norway.
