Florence- Richard E. "Rick" Cates, 65, of Florence, Wisc., passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022, at his home with loved ones by his side.
He was born in Everett, Washington, on December 23, 1956, son of Kenneth and Carolyn Rose Mason. Rick spent the last numerous years traveling back and forth from Oregon to Wisconsin to be with family here and there. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Caelyn, camping at their special spot, watching football all weekend with his nephew, and hanging out with his great-nieces and great-nephews.
Rick was a strong man who was an amazing and devoted father, grandfather, and uncle. His life was his family, who brought him so much love and joy to his life.
Survivors include one son, Caleb (Amanda) Cates; one daughter, Kia Cates; two granddaughters, Mila Collette and Caelyn Cates; one sister, Vanessa Mason; three brothers, Michael Cates, Billy Cates and Gary Mason Sr.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many close friends.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by one brother, Chris, and one sister, Leslie.
His son Caleb (Amanda) Cates, want to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to his family who cared for him and supported him with love and comfort through his journey; Candice, Stephen, Isaiah, Aries, Dezaniaha, Stephen Jr., and Marcella. The family also wants to thank Pride Manufacturing for their thoughtfulness and generosity during these last few months.
A celebration of life and luncheon will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 308 Florence Ave., Florence, WI, on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
