FLORENCE- Rex L. Holmes, 90, of Florence, Wisconsin and Deming, New Mexico passed away on August 7, 2004, at the Florence Villa Nursing Home.
Rex was born on Sep. 8, 1913, in Nunica, lower Michigan, to the late Addison and Grace (McMann) Holmes. He graduated from Coopersville High School, Coopersville, lower Michigan in 1931 and furthered his education at Michigan State University.
On Aug. 21, 1936, he married the late Dolores (Parmenter) Holmes. He was employed as a supervisor at Continental Motors in Muskegon, lower Michigan and he also owned and operated a dairy farm. Upon his retirement in 1966 from Continental Motors, they moved to Florence where he drove a school bus for the Florence School District until 1978.
Rex was a member for over fifty years in the Masonic Lodge and has been a member of the local Lions Club.
He is survived by one son, Thomas Holmes of Nunica, lower Michigan; two daughters, Ruth Ann (Lynn) Rogers and Arvilla (Neil) Tuchalski both of Florence, Wisconsin; one brother, Richard (Irene) Holmes of St. James City, Florida; seven grandchildren, Lori (Marty) Moore, Lisa (Greg) Novak, and James (Christine) Hixon of Florence, Wisconsin and Thomas Tuchalski of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Cynthia Holmes and Matthew (Amanda) Holmes of Spring Lake, lower Michigan, Gregory (Sally)Holmes of Nunica, lower Michigan and 13 great-grandchildren.
Rex was preceded in death by Dolores, his loving wife of 57 years and his two brothers, Howard and Jerry Holmes.
A visitation will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Florence, Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Florence, Wisconsin with Rev. Douglas Johnson officiating.
