Ralph W. Greenquist, 83, of Spread Eagle, died on Friday, September 7, 2012, from complications following hip surgery.
He was born on November 5, 1928, in Norway, Mich., to the late Walter and Ada (Bliss) Greenquist.
Ralph graduated from Florence High School in 1946. He served his country in the United States Army in Japan for two years, earning the rank of sergeant. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for three years where he met Lil Van Roy, his future wife.
Lil and Ralph were married on August 8, 1953, at St. Mary's Church in Kaukauna, Wis. Ralph worked hard providing for his family for 35 years as a crew foreman for a natural gas company. Lil and Ralph raised their four children in New Berlin, Wis. Ralph enjoyed fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, traveling, and was an avid Packer fan, and teller of tall tales. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends at their beautiful lake, Misty Moors. We'll miss you, Greenie.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lil; children Laura (Don) Zimmerman and their children Eric (Richelle) Zimmerman; Jennifer Peterson, Petty Officer Second Class Michael Zimmerman, and Staff Sergeant Amanda Zimmerman; Susan (Michael) McFadzen and their daughter Katie McFadzen; Nancy (Jay) Schulte and their daughters Kristin and Nicki Schulte, Ohio; and Steve (Carol) Greenquist and Steve's daughter, Stephanie Greenquist, California. Ralph is further survived by his great-grandchildren; Camryn and Landyn Zimmerman, Brynn Peterson and Carter Thurber, and James Carpenter. Ralph is also survived by his sister, Helen Horath (Illinois) and several nieces and nephews.
Ralph was preceded in death by his older sister, Beverly Lietzow by five hours on September 7, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Robert Van Roy, Bernard Horath, Clarence Lietzow and his sister-in-law, Jane Van Roy.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 15, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, 417 Central Avenue, Florence. The Florence VFW Post No. 3635 will offer military services 10:50 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Commonwealth Cemetery, Commonwealth.
