Obituary

Phyllis J. McCabe, 82, of Norway, Mich., passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at ManorCare Health Services, Kingsford. She was born on August 7, 1928, in Norway, Mich., daughter of the late Peter "Frank" and Edna (Neveau) VanDamme. Phyllis grew up and graduated from Norway High School, Class of 1946. She married Robert McCabe on October 21, 1950, in Norway. After being married, they resided in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, and Wyoming, before moving back to Norway in 1964. Phyllis worked for the City of Norway as Clerk for over twelve years, retiring in 1999. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Norway, and the Altar Society. Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies including dancing, skiing, swimming, watching football (especially her beloved Packers), but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Phyllis will be forever remembered for her great sense of humor. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Robert McCabe; one daughter, Peggy (Richard) Johnson, Republic; two sons, Steven (Deborah) McCabe, Clinton Township, Mich., Michael (Karen) McCabe, Sun Prairie, Wis.; one sister, Corrine (Bill) Carruthers, Jackson, Wis.; three grandchildren, Kristy, Jennifer, and Kevin McCabe; numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by one son, Patrick Joe McCabe; and one brother, Orville VanDamme. The visitation will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Norway. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:30 p.m., Saturday at the church. Rev. Tim Ekaitis will officiate. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery, Norway. A memorial will be established in Phyllis' memory.
