Peter J. Rudis, age 88, of Crystal Falls, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
He was born October 8, 1917, in Amasa, son of the late John and Alexandria (Valuva) Rudis. On September 18, 1948, he married Helen Sylvia Aho.
Peter attended Amasa schools and joined the U.S. Army on August 4, 1942. He attained the rank of Sergeant with the Signal Corps in World War II serving in the Western Pacific. He was a life member of the Tufts-Rondon Post No. 2891 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post No. 87, Crystal Falls. He worked as a logger and heavy equipment operator, and also worked for the Hannah Mining Company and the Warner Mine as a foreman. Peter was a great outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Sylvia Rudis, Crystal Falls; one grandson, Dennis Rudis, Jr., Flint; one niece, Jackie Vanhorn, Longwood, Fla.; two nephews, Ronald and Dick Salo, Crystal Falls; and other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dennis Rudis; two brothers, John and Paul Rudis; three sisters, Alexandria Rudis, Mary Barnett, and Esther Maloney.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls with military honors being accorded by the VFW and American Legion.
