Obituary

Peter Paul Robarge, 79, of Iron Mountain, formerly of Crystal Falls, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the V.A. Medical Center, Iron Mountain. He was born October 2, 1927, son of the late Alfred and Fanny (Tamminen) Robarge. On October 13, 1945 in Jackson, Mich. he married Dorothy Robinson. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2002. Peter was the founder and owner/operator of Crystal Lumber Company, Crystal Falls. In 1944 he worked in Kenosha, Wis. building test cells for airplane motors. He also helped build the Nash Motor Plant, later American Motors and worked for Snap-on Tools. Peter and Dorothy met in 1944 and both worked at the Goodyear Tire Plant. Peter was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army, received his training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and was later stationed in post-war Japan. Following his service the couple came to Crystal Falls. He was a Life Member of the Tufts-Rondon Post No. 2891 V.F.W. Pete was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many evening rides, together with Dode, exploring areas of the U.P. Coin collecting, buying and selling real estate and cutting firewood were some of the hobbies he enjoyed. He was a great supporter of the people of Iron County. More often than not he was willing to go without, to meet the needs of others. Even though Pete was very busy thoughout his life, he was willing to lend a helping hand and spend time with family and friends. Survivors include three sons, Peter Robarge, Iron Mountain, Larry (Jill) Robarge, John Robarge, both of Crystal Falls; two daughters, Karen Willman, Crystal Falls, Cindy (Patrick) Curtis, Kingsford; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one brother, Walter (Rachel) Riverside, Iron River; two sisters, Frances Larys, Traverse City, Mary Jane Soderberg, Crystal Falls, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Alfred, Ramon (Feller), William (Bill) Robarge, and three sisters, Joselyn Schmelebeck, Patricia Guidone, and Marie Miller. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007, at United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls with a Pass In Review ceremony by the East Side Veterans at 11:15 a.m. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Saturday at the church. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, with military rites accorded by the East Side Veterans Council. Pallbearers are Harold Robbe, Charlie Curtis, Michael Willman, Adam Robarge, Derrick Robarge, and Troy Robarge.
