Obituary

Peter Michael DeMuri, 64, of Florence, Wis. passed away suddenly Friday, March 26, 2010, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, Mich. Peter was born November 14, 1945, in Crystal Falls, Mich., son of Anthony and Bregeda (Sartori) DeMuri. He graduated from Florence High School, Class of 1964. After high school, Peter served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1969, when he was honorably discharged. Following his military service, Peter returned to Florence to work for his father at Florence Motor Sales. Peter and his brother David assumed leadership roles with Tony in the Ford dealership, and upon Tony's retirement, they became the owners of Florence Motor Sales. Peter's work as service manager spanned 41 years. He could often be seen day or night driving the wrecker, helping those in need. Peter loved his work and enjoyed the visits with his many customers over those years. Peter married Debra Olson on January 21, 1972, at the First Presbyterian Church, Florence. Their wedding was the first ecumenical ceremony in the community, attended by both a Presbyterian minister and Catholic priest. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3635, a member of the American Legion Post No. 211, and the Florence Snowmobile Club. Peter was an active participant of the First Presbyterian Church, Florence. Peter enjoyed the out-of-doors, especially cutting wood and snowmobiling. Restoring older vehicles was his passion; he was currently working on fixing his original 1970 truck. He was like a "kid" this past summer when he once again got the 1918 Florence fire truck up and running for the Firemen's Tournaments. He is survived by Debra DeMuri, his wife of 38 years; his children DeAnna (Troy) Kassens, Eagle, Wis., Jeffrey (Kit) DeMuri, Florence; his mother, Bregeda DeMuri, Florence; a brother, David (Terry) DeMuri, Crystal Falls; a niece, Maria DeMuri and nephew Tony, both of Crystal Falls; father-in-law, Ernie Dagostino, Florence; brothers-in-law, Mark (Judy) Dagostino, Melrose Park, Ill., Matt (Marion) Dagostino; niece, Gena Dagostino and nephews, Vincent and Alex Dagostino, of Florence. He also leaves four very special grandchildren which he treasured dearly, Travis and Michael Kassens, and Dominic and Samantha DeMuri; they enriched his life beyond measurement. Peter was preceded in death by his father, Anthony DeMuri, in 2003.
