Peter Anthony Calo, 78, of Ishpeming, formerly of Iron Mountain, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 28, 2026, at his home. He was born in Iron Mountain on December 24, 1948, son of Carlo “Chuck” and Kathleen (Kernan) Calo.

Peter graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1967. He was an exceptional student and a standout athlete, particularly on the football field. Peter attended University of Michigan for a short time. He was an Iron Mountain resident for most of his life. He will always be remembered for his kind and gentle manner.

Peter is survived by his aunt, Mary Calo and many cousins, including Carmela Altobelli, Peter (Cecs) Altobelli, Grace (Woody) Tullis, Liz Voelzke, Mickey Calo, Celeste Malone, Cecilia Smith, Tony Calo, Monica Shampo, Jay Calo and a nephew Brett Bolek.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas, two sisters, Paula and Carla, uncles, Mike Calo, Henry Calo, John Calo and Daniel Altobelli, aunts, Molly Altobelli, Marion Calo and Dorothy Calo and cousins, Monica Calo and Michelle Angela Wilkins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Janusz Romanek officiating. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. The Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is serving the family.

The family extends their thanks to Peter’s caregiver Robert Gulley, social worker Leeana Koster, and special friends, Kathe Oliva, housemate Jason, and cousin Cecilia Smith.
