Obituary

Perley A. Hood, 69, of Merriman, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Manorcare Health System, Kingsford, surrounded by family. He was born September 10, 1940, in Portland, Maine, son of the late Alex Hood and Almeda Burton. Perley grew up and was raised in Portland and moved to Iron Mountain in 1971. Perley married the former Frances Degenaer on June 18, 1983, in Sagola, Mich. They resided in Sagola until 2007, when they moved to Merriman. While living in Iron Mountain, Perley worked for Jon's Signs and himself as a painter and designer, and later as a driver for Don Graham Trucking, Powers, Mich. Perley was known for his unique and individual projects. He enjoyed spending time with his children and family, playing the part of Santa Clause each year at the Birchwood Mall and in the downtown Christmas parade, and he especially enjoyed the many hours spent with his son Shawn fishing and hunting. Perley is survived by his wife, Fran Hood; five sons, Robert (Julaine) Hood, Iron Mountain, Michael Hood, Carney, Mich.; Richard (JoEllen) Hood, Carney; Roger (Krista) Hood, Kingsford; Shawn (Kelly) Hood, Merriman; three step-sons, Tom (Toni) Christian, Sagola, Mich.; Clarence (Tina Bell) Christian, Norway; Mike (Anna) Christian, Felch, Mich.; three daughters, Earlene (Ron) Wenzel, Norway; Patty (Myron LaBonte) Miller; Terry Hood, Iron Mountain; four brothers, Perley Hood, Maine, Al (Edie) Hood, Nevada, Vernal Hood, Maine, Raymond Gignac, Florida; three sisters, Paula (Craig), Felch; Linda (Warren) Anderson, Felch, Debbie (Lloyd) Hilsabeck, Niagara; 32 grandchildren, James, Kaitlyn, Justin, Doug, Nicole, Lindsay, Elizabeth, Pam, Cory, Tanya, Michael, Christina, Trevor, Josh, Heather, Summer, Shannon, Alyssa, Justin, Corey, Sandy, Brandon, Kyle, Domenic, Jonas, McKenna, Toriana, McKayla, Alyssa, Jacob, Cassie, Cane; many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, Oli, and Earl Hood, Harlan and Eddie Gignac; three sisters, Mary, JoAnn, and Sonya; and one great-granddaughter, Justice Nicole Miller. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 26, 2010, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Felch Cemetery, Felch, Mich.
