Patricia K. Slocum, 84, formerly of Crystal Falls, a gentle spirit, loving wife and caring mother passed away, March 25th, 2014, in Tempe, Arizona after a long illness.
She grew up in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late Ward J. and Flora J. Kelly. Pat received her Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School, and was licensed to counsel before the Illinois State Supreme Court. She practiced in the Chicago area specializing in labor law, an early trendsetter for women in the field, although she never considered herself so. Pat went on to pursue a successful business career with her husband Ed and raised a family in California.
Pat was the kind of Mom everyone would want to have; nurturing, patient, a go-to for ear aches and skinned knees. She was a lifelong supporter of the military family and was known affectionately as "Mrs. Claus" to squadrons of military aviators.
She was preceded in life by her husband of 40 years Edwin and her sister Charlotte. Her spirit is carried on by her sons, Hoyt Slocum and Mark Slocum; grandchildren, Ava & Michael and great grandchildren, Rex and Rocco. Dad is probably flying her around right now showing her the clouds.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 15, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. Burial will follow Sunday, 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate.
