Florence: Oscar E. Ghere, age 92, of Florence, Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Florence Villa in Florence, Wisconsin. He was born November 4, 1912, in Marshall Town, Iowa, the son of the late Oscar and Florence (Dennett) Ghere. He moved to Illinois and graduated high school there. He married Catherine Lindgren August of 1931. She preceded him in death in October of 1973. In August of 1975, he married Helen Stout. She currently resides at Florence Villa. Oscar worked at Florence High School as Head Custodian, and worked in maintenance at Florence Villa retiring in 1985. He enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, playing the accordion, riding his Harley and putzing in his work shop. Survivors include his wife Helen, one son Otto (Eli) Ghere of Florence, one daughter Joyce Martinson of Florence, two step sons Bill (Paula) Todish of Crystal Falls, MI, and Raymond (Jayne) Todish of Oklahoma, one step daughter Tancey (Dan) Williams of Chicago, Illinois, a son-in-law Gene Szymkiewicz of Florence, two sisters-in-law Sharon Ghere of Florence and Grace Walters of Iron Mountain, three grandchildren Jim (Kathy) Ghere of Cincinnati, Nick (Shelly) Ghere of Spread Eagle, WI, Ellen (Bob) Paulus of Milwaukee, WI, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and his wife Catherine, he was preceded by one daughter Betty Lue Szymkiewicz on May 7, 2003, one brother Arthur Ghere and one grandson Richard Ghere in 2002. Visitation will be Friday, May 4, 2005, from 4 - 7p.m. at the Jacobs Lundholm Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will be in Commonwealth Cemetery.
