Norman S. Miilu Sr., 79, of Kingsford passed away Monday, August 12, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson Veteran's Hospital, Iron Mountain.
Norman was born on May 17, 1934, in Mass City, Mich., son of the late Michael and Irene (Nichols) Miilu.
He grew up in Mass City and graduated from Mass City High School. Norman enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1955, until being honorably discharged in 1961. He married Leota "Sis" LaBine on May 10, 1961, in Trout Creek. She preceded him in death in 1987.
While living in Trout Creek, Norman worked for the White Pine Copper Mine as a driller blaster for 32 years before retiring. In 2006, he moved to Kingsford to be closer to his family. Norman enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Norman is survived by five sons, Russell (Linda), Chilton, Wis., Norman Jr., Iron Mountain, David, Madison, Wis., Robert (Ginny) Kenosha, Wis., Jerry (Angie) Manitowoc, Wis.; two daughters, Lillian (William) Klein, Racine,Wis., Cindy Miilu, Madison; four brothers, Donald (Carol) Ontonagon, Howard (Judy), Lansing, Mich., Eino (Kris) Mass City, Roy (Gail) Mass City; two sisters, Lillian (Myhren) Ontonagon, Myrtle (Rick) Anderson, Ontonagon; twenty grandchildren, Travis, Troy (Patty), Trevor, Heather (Michael), Ronald, Medrick (Jessica), Patricia, Katy, Ullysis, Michael, Aaron, Justin (Hannah), Christy (Erik), Kiana, Cody, Jenna, Morgan, Danika, Jordan and Dalton; thirteen great-grandchildren, Dale, Hunter, Roman, Tyler, Malachi, Thomas, Jasmine, Cameron, Hailey, Yelies, Cayden, Hailey and Katelyn; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife Sis, Norman was preceded in death by six siblings, and one granddaughter, Dallas.
Visitation will be Friday, August 16, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Trout Creek American Legion Hall. The family will share in a celebration of life with family and friends, Friday 12:00 p.m. at the Trout Creek Legion Hall. Burial will be in Trout Creek Cemetery, Trout Creek. American Legion Post 0494 Trombley Polkas-Trout Creek will accord military honors 12:45 p.m. at graveside.
