Obituary

Iron Mountain-Norman O. Howe, age 90, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, Mich.

He was born October 4, 1928, in Michigamme, Mich., son of the late Russell and Flora (Chantelois) Howe. Norman lived in Michigamme until graduating in 1946 at age 17. He then went to work on the ore boats, followed by jobs cutting timber and construction. In the late 1950's Norman started as an underground miner at the Tracy Mine in Negaunee and worked there until it closed. He then went to work for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company until his retirement in 1989. Norman was married to Marian Jarvi in 1950 and together they had five children; Linda (Allan) Keto; the late Timothy Howe; Gregory (Kathy) Howe, Karen (Doug) Pascoe; and an infant son Andrew who preceded him in death. Marian preceded Norman in death. He then married Dorien Filizetti in March of 1983 and together they have a son, Randall (Elissa) Howe.

Norman and Dorien enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting, fishing, taking long walks together, woodcarving, doing projects, and building houses, saunas and garages for themselves and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Dorien Howe; his four children; his grandchildren Danielle (Bruce) Bergquist, Kevin (Jess) Keto, Brian Keto, Andrew (Maryann) Howe, Neil (Amber) Pascoe, Amy (Adam) Cassandra, Gabriella Howe and one Howe grandson to be born in December; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister Flora Mae Olsen.

In addition to his parents, first wife Marian, and sons Timothy and Andrew, Norman was preceded in death by one brother, Donald (sister-in-law Juanita) Howe; one sister, Doris (brother-in-law Joseph) Verville; and one brother-in-law, Duane Olsen.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. central time at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. with a Memorial Mass following at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Negaunee Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers consider memorials to St. Vincent de Paul or the Salvation Army in Norman's memory.
