Obituary

Norma J. Provencher, 81, of Niagara, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital with her loving husband and children at her side. She fought a courageous battle following a series of complications. She was born May 19, 1925, in Aurora, Wis., daughter of the late Camiel and Stephanie (VanGasse) VanPembrook. Norma married Edward Provencher on June 2, 1945 at Sacred Heart Church, Aurora. They spent 61 years of married life on the family farm. Norma worked at The Daily News after graduating from high school. She later became a wife and full-time homemaker. Norma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and was an avid gardener. Norma had a very positive attitude and outlook on life. She will be remembered for her wonderful smile and will be greatly missed by those whose lives she has touched. She is survived by her husband, Edward; one son, Joseph (Lorraine) Provencher, Dunbar; four daughters, Betty (Jim) Morin, Niagara, Mary (Dick) VanLangendon, Green Bay, Patricia (Larry) Cowling, Lanse, Mich., Rosanne (Bruce) Freeman, Niagara; two sisters, Emily Anderson, Aurora, Ella Alfredson, Norway, Mich.; 15 grandchildren, Douglas (Laurie) Morin, Scott Morin, Steve (Tori) Morin, Dan Morin, Jeff (Nicole) VanLangendon, Greg (Ashley) VanLangendon, Robert Cowling, Matthew Cowling, Jane Freeman, Charlie Freeman, Darlene (Bob) Schuh, Edward (Kari) Provencher, Diane (Erik) Blosser, JoAnn (Seth) Thompson, Joseph Provencher; 15 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Norma was preceded in death by six brothers, August, Theodore, Edmund, Adolph, Donald, Joseph VanPembrook; two sisters, Ann Neveau, Mary Ann Edlebeck; three grandchildren, Dennis Morin, Wendy Provencher, and Kevin Provencher. Visitation will be Saturday, December 30, 2006, 9:00 am – 11:00 am, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am, Father Michael Betley will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain in the spring.
