Niels Christian Mikkelsen, Jr., passed away on November 18, 2010, at age 93. Born on February 6, 1917, he was the son of Niels and Katrina Mikkelsen, immigrants to America in 1905, from Thisted, Denmark. Dad was always proud of his Danish heritage and instilled values of personal confidence and persistence. In 1995, he married Margaret Schauer, and they have spent the last fifteen years in loving companionship with each other. He is survived by Margaret's family which includes daughter, Donna and George Arnold, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Dorothy, "Sue"; his parents; one brother, Fred; one sister, Olga; his best friend and brother-in-law, Guy Coons and his wife Alice. He is also survived by his sons, Guy and Niels III, their wives Kathy and Cher; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four nephews, and three nieces. Dad was a native of Milwaukee, Wis., a veteran of the United States Army during WWII; thirty year employee of Golden Guernsey Dairy, moving to Arizona in 1974, with the Lilly Ice Cream Company. He was a faithful caregiver for Dorothy for twenty years. He has been an usher at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, and so enjoyed being with all of you at the Parish. He will be dearly missed, never to be forgotten. A Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday November 27, 2010, at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3801 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix.
