Obituary

Milton S. Hendrickson, 89, passed away, Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain. He was born, March 22, 1923, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Erland and Hilma (Sjoberg) Hendrickson. Milton grew up in Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1941. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII, serving in both the South and North Pacific, from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1945. Milton married Dorothy Carlson on April 18, 1953 at the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Milton worked for the Niagara Paper Mill as a technician for 44 years, retiring in 1986. He was a very active member of the First Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Lutheran Brotherhood at First Lutheran. Milton was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Iron Mountain Post. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years and always enjoyed a beautiful garden, where he raised the best tomatoes. Milton will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy; three sons, Robert Hendrickson, Denver, Colo., David Hendrickson, Green Bay, Wis., James (Jennifer) Hendrickson, Appleton, Wis.; two daughters, Elaine (James) Johnson, Seattle, Wash., Sharon (Dan) Schaut, Salt Lake City, Utah; four grandchildren, Amanda LaBlanc, Andrew Johnson, Sara Schaut and Alex Swartz; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, October 12, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain. The Disabled American Veterans and American Legion will accord military honors 10:45 a.m. at the church. Funeral services will be Friday 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. James Lindgren will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
