Florence-Millicent A. "Millie" Conn, age 91, of Florence, Wis., passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Florence Health Services, Florence, Wis.

Millie was born on October 4, 1927, to her parents Thomas and Alice (Cyr) Trudell, who preceded her in death. Millie's father was killed in a local iron ore mining accident when she was four years old. She was the youngest of eight children, all of whom have passed. Millie was a third generation native of Florence. Her grandfather Trudell, who immigrated from French Canada, opened the first livery stable on Main Street when the Iron Mines opened in the late 1800's to service visitors and mining employees who came to Florence via horses as it grew. It was located on the site of the current Ford dealership car lot. At age 16 Millie left school to help her sister Joyce in Pontiac, Mich., by caring for her children after Joyce's husband died from a roofing fall. This kept the younger family together while her sister worked to support the family. These nieces were especially close to Millie as a result of that experience (Cookie, Brenda, Diana, Tootsie, Bernadette and Sharon) whom she cared for during this difficult time. She also has close nieces, Marguerite and Aileen, and a great niece and great nephew, Timbuck and Paulita. Millie married Vernon Andrew Conn in 1946. They were married in Oklahoma after WWII when Vernon completed his duty in the United States Navy. They resided in Florence for the remainder of their lives. Vernon passed away in 2007.

Millie was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception St. Mary's Catholic Church in Florence where she was baptized and confirmed. She was a dedicated mother, sister and wife and selflessly gave herself to raising her family. Millie spent several years post war working at the resistor electronic factory in Florence. During retirement she spent winters in Florida with Vernon and enjoyed the company of many friends. She loved her family and her family loved her, she will be missed but not forgotten.

Survivors include two sons, Richard (Jaye L) Conn, Sawyer Lake, Mich. and Rodney Conn, Marquette, Mich.; four grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Trinity and Coral Ann; eight great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Willow, Mikelle, Autumn, Wynter, Mychael, Clyde and Lionel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Vernon, Millicent was preceded in death by one son, Randy Conn at the age of 6; five brothers, Vincent, Wilbur, Gerald, David and Steve; and two sisters, Florence and Joyce.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence, Wis. Prayers will be recited at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence, Wis. Rev. Fr. Timothy Brandt will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery in the Spring.
