Crystal Falls: Mildred Naomi Olson, age 76, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, formerly of Crystal Falls, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2005, at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury, Minnesota. She was born in Crystal Falls, June 17, 1928, the daughter of the late Ole and Esther Olson. Mildred moved to Harvey, Illinois in her teen years. She graduated from Thornton Township High School and Junior College. Mildred received her BA Degree from Northern Illinois University and earned her Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Most of her adult and professional life was spent teaching in the Women's Physical Education department at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. She retired from NIU I 1993. Millie was very active in the Stage Coach Players theater group in DeKalb and in the Preservation of the Egyptian Theater effort. She was also a long time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in DeKalb. The family would like to thank all the people in DeKalb that were Millie's friends and that helped her throughout the years. Special thanks to Meg, Mike, Amy and Father Mark. She will be sorely missed by family and friends. Survivors include one brother Alfred (Margaret) Olson, a nephew Mark (Janine), nieces Carolyn (David) Radley, Gretchen (Stan) Apelgren and Patricia (Tom) Rossez, numerous grand nieces and nephews, special family member Marc Austen, and faithful dog Arabesque. Besides her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by a brother Glenn, grandparents Alfred and Ruth Martin and Martin and Lena Olson and special friend LaVerne Kingstadt. Visitation will be Saturday January 8, 2005, from 9 - 10 a.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00a.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Rucinski will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls.
