Mike J. Bjork, age 87, of Alpha, died Thursday, November 3, 2005 at his home. He was born March 6, 1918 in Alpha, son of the late Albert and Anna (Konik) Bjork. On August 24, 1946 in St. Edward Catholic Church, Alpha he married Agnes Bara. She survives. Mike worked in the CCC camps near Watersmeet prior to entering military service in World War II. He became a Staff Sargent in the U. S. Army and was a member of the Alpha Mastodon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.7569. After four and-a-half years in the Army he came home and went to work in the mines and retired in 1980 after 30 years with the Book, Groverland and White Pine mines. Mike was a member and worked for the former St. Edward Catholic Church, Alpha, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with family and most especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Agnes Bjork, Alpha; two sons, Michael (Mary) Bjork, Potomac Falls, Virginia, Joseph (Kryssis) Bjork, Fruit Port; two daughters, Marjorie (Michael) Boyle, Green Bay, Wis., Linda Battan, Alpha; eight grandchildren, Thomas DeGrand, Richard DeGrand, Valerie Gaff, Angela Battan, Jeffrey Battan, Sarah Bjork, Albert Bjork, Jarod Bjork; and three great grandchildren, Maya Gaff, Curtis Gaff and Elijah Gaff. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Peter, Joseph, John, Walter, and three sisters, Mary, Kathryn and Antoinette. Visitation will be Monday, November 7, 2005 from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2005 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Ray Valerio will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. Military honors will be performed at the church Monday following the mass by the East Side Veterans Council.
