Crystal Falls; Michael S. Barna, age 88, died in Iron Mountain, at the VA Medical Center on February 18, 2005. Mike was born in Crystal Falls on June 5, 1916, to the late Mike and Helen (Kukura) Barna. He joined the Army and served during WWII from 1941 to 1945, mainly in the South Pacific. After the war, he worked for many years in Chicago as a construction worker, before returning to Crystal Falls. Mike was an avid reader, who used the public library regularly and enjoyed many games of golf and was especially talented at cribbage. He is survived by two loving sisters, Helen Masuga of Crystal Falls and Katherine Hollenstein of Cottage Grove, MN. Uncle Mike will also be greatly missed by his nieces and nephew, who also survive along with many cousins. Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sister Mary Barna. Visitation for Michael S. Barna will be on Tuesday, February 22, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls, from 10:00a.m. until time of service at 11:00a.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Feb. 22 at 11:00a.m. at the church with Fr. Dino Silvestrini officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery of Crystal Falls. The family is being served by the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home of Crystal Falls.
