Niagara:
Merlin George Rentmaster, age 87, of Pembine, Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2005, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain, Michigan, after a long battle with Parkinson's.
He was born April 8, 1917 in Pembine, WI, the son of the late Anton and Lily (Robinson) Rentmaster. He attended Pembine schools until he was eight and then the family moved to Green Bay, WI. He graduated from East High School in Green Bay. He moved back to Pembine when he was seventeen years old. On July 26, 1940, he married Colleen Willis, the daughter of the late George and Mary Willis. Merlin and his wife owned and operated Merle's Market from 1942-1976. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and also served as Chief of the Volunteer Pembine Fire Department for twenty-five years. Sports were a great part of his life such as fishing, hunting, basketball, bowling and he was an avid golfer.
Survivors include in wife Colleen and two brothers George Rentmaster of Pembine, Wisconsin and Anton (Carol) Rentmaster of Green Bay, Wisconsin, his step-mother Gladys and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Merlin was preceded in death by two sisters Ilabell Ficher and
Lila Mae Laranoid.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 22, 2005, from 10-11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Pembine. Memorial services will be held at 11:00a.m at the Church. Pastor Gene Wickman will be officiating.
