Iron Mountain:
Maxine Abata, age 87, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006.
She was born September 16, 1918, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Oran and Elsie (Brown) Cardno. Maxine married Samuel Abata on February 7, 1941, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2002. They resided in Kingsford except for a couple of years at which time they resided in Caspian.
Maxine enjoyed many hobbies, some of which included weaving, sewing, knitting, and spinning.
Survivors include one daughter LaVerne (Doug) Nuding of Toledo, Ohio; two grandchildren Christine (Kevin) Reed of Onsted, Mich., Stephanie Abata of Marquette, Mich; four great–grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Leah, and Madisyn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband Sam Abata, Maxine was preceded in death by her son Ralph Abata, and a grandchild, Peter Chervo.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 4, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at Breitung Township Cemetery in Quinnesec.
