Maurine Lada, 86, Crystal Falls, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010. She was born April 7, 1924, in Crystal Falls daughter of the late Hugo and Jean (Paulson) Johnson. She graduated from Crystal Falls High School. Maurine married the late Calvin J. Lada on December 30, 1945. The couple made their home in Crystal Falls and operated Lada's Red Owl grocery for many years.
Maurine enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time at Lake Emily. She loved to play bridge and taught her children and grandchildren to enjoy many card games. Maurine also liked to knit and quilt.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cal in June 1995, one daughter Kristine Lada Mayotte in April 1975, her grandson Darrin Calvin Mayotte in April 2003, and a sister Lou Hagglund.
Survivors include, two daughters, Carole (Bill) Hamilton, Minnesota, Debra (Tom) Westcott, Crystal Falls; one son-in-law, Ruggy Mayotte, Illinois; six grandchildren, Ryan (Jess) Mayotte, Sarah (Brian) March, Peter (Leah) Hamilton, Kerstin Westcott, Ketti (Dave Bayles) Westcott, Kallie Westcott; seven great-grandchildren, Corey and Kyle Mayotte, Olivia and Alexa March, Ella, Oren, and Lewis Hamilton; one sister, Gail Zimmerman, Newberry, Mich.; many other relatives, and friends.
Per Maurine's wishes, there will be no services. Her immediate family will gather at a later date to celebrate her life. Maurine was blessed to have spent time with her family at Lake Emily for a family reunion last weekend. Her family is comforted by the thought of Maurine joining her husband Cal for a highball in heaven.
