Matt H. Hill, 95, of Crystal Falls, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. He was born January 30, 1915, in Caspian, son of the late Gust and Julia (Autio) Hill. Matt was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon and received an Honorable Discharge on January 22, 1946. He retired as a logger and woodworker. Surviving is his sister Eva Hill, Crystal Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Toivo, John, Nick, and William Hill; and two sisters, Elizabeth Hill and Vienna Maki. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Hematite Township Cemetery, Amasa. Rev. Kevin Kaiser will officiate. The East Side Veterans will accord military honors at graveside. The Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls, is serving the family.
