Mary L. "Putsy" Wickstrom, 84, of Florence, passed away peacefully at her home on June 2, 2012, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born April 14, 1928, in Florence, to the late Eli and Matilda (La Chapelle) Youngell. Putsy married Wesley Wickstrom in 1967, in Fence, Wis.
Putsy graduated from Florence High School and worked at O'Connor's Liquor Store in Florence for many years. She also worked at Martin's later in life. She and Wes loved children and were foster parents for a number of years.
She loved life, was full of spunk and lived life on her own terms. She cherished traveling to Lake Superior and Isle Royal with Wes. She loved fishing with her son, Jim Paul and spending time with him. Later in life, Putsy especially enjoyed going to the casino where she always seemed to come home a winner - and if she didn't win, she'd only admit that she didn't win a lot this time.
Putsy leaves behind daughter-in-law, Penny Wickstrom, Manassas, Va.; three grandsons, Jamie (Amber) Wickstrom of Manassas, Va., Paul (Stephanie) Wickstrom, Bristow, Va., Bret (Liebe) Wickstrom, Winterville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Kylie and Mason Wickstrom, and Vanessa Wickstrom; one step-son, Dennis (Linda) Forrest and their children Ray and June, Green Bay; brother, Jim Youngell, Florence; one nephew Tom (Barb) Youngell, Green Bay; nieces, Denise (Roger) Hicks, Florence, Jeanne (Ken) Richard, Florence, Sherry (John) Schuldes, Green Bay ; plus many other nieces and nephews; two sisters- in-law, Joyce Byloff, Kingsford and Patricia Kalish, Brookfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wesley Wickstrom on April 4, 1996, her beloved son, Jim Paul Wickstrom, and her special friend, Emery Steiner.
The visitation will be held Friday, June 8, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Friday at the church. Rev. Matt Settle will officiate.
