Mary F. Stebbins, 76, formerly of Amasa, Mich., has been reunited with her beloved husband, Lee Stebbins, Thursday, March 22, 2007.
She was born August 6, 1930, in Iron River, Mich., daughter of the late John and Celia (Bonovich) Povich. She was a 1948 graduate of Iron River High School. Mary married Clayton Lee Stebbins, June 17, 1950. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1995.
Mary was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She loved watching her sons, Frank, Brook, and Clay play football for the Forest Park Trojans. When the Trojans won the state championship, her son, Frank, was the team captain, which made her extremely proud. All three of her sons participated in championship games, which also made her very proud. When her boys graduated from high school, she was then able to watch her grandson, Brandon, continue the tradition. She was also dedicated to her daughter Caroline's high school basketball career, her track and field events, and watching her play softball.
Later in life, she enjoyed the special times she was able to spend with her sisters, Ann and Catherine, who meant so much to her. When she had a stroke, she became a resident of Iron County Medical Care Facility, where she spent the last three years of her life. She had many wonderful friends there and many dear friends who visited her during her stay. One of her highlights was when her daughter, Teri, along with her husband, Mike, would bring their dogs, Bear and Bambi, to visit. She would give them treats as they laid next her.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her very special and only granddaughter, Salina. She was very proud of her grandsons, Kyle and Blake, and only regretted they lived so far away and wasn't able to see them as often as she would have liked. She looked forward to the frequent phone calls from Kyle. Mary also had many members of her family that came to visit that lived out-of-state, and many friends that took time to see her. There are too many to mention, but her children would like to thank you and would like you to know how much you are appreciated and loved.
She is survived by three sons, Frank (Sue) Stebbins, Buena Vista, Colo., Brook (Michele) Stebbins, Mesa, Ariz., Clay (Tanya) Stebbins, Amasa; two daughters, Teri (Mike) Barlow, Quinnesec, Mich., Caroline Stebbins, Germantown, N.Y.; one brother, Peter (Jean) Povich; three sisters, Ann (Thomas) McMahon, Catherine (John) Sporer, all of Iron River, Francis (Arrigo) Ugolini, Lake Geneva, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Povich, Waukegan, Ill.; four grandchildren, Brandon, Salina, Kyle, and Blake; a special nephew and his family, Kraig (Zhanna) Karell and their children; and many other special nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Lee, Mary was preceded in death by an infant son, Keith; and two brothers, Emil and George Povich.
Mary's family would like to thank the staff at the Iron County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care they gave Mary and also a special thank you to Dr. Donald Smith.
Private family services were held. A graveside service will be held at Hematite Cemetery in Amasa, at a later date.
