Iron Mountain- Mary L. Parent, 93, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at her home in Victorian Pines Estate, Iron Mountain, Mich.
She was born April 23, 1928, in Marquette, Mich., daughter of the late Eugene and Lucille (Grant) Soucy. Mary was a graduate of Bishop Baraga High School in Maquette and went on to receive her Registered Nursing Degree at age 20 from St. Vincent Nursing School in Toledo, Ohio. She had a 30-year career as a nurse, caring for patients both in Marquette and Iron Mountain, Mich. Mary married James "Jim" Parent on July 13, 1951, and together raised nine boys. He preceded her in death.
Family was of utmost importance to Mary. She loved spending time at the family farm walking the field, picking apples, and teaching the grandchildren how to play cards. She and Jim enjoyed traveling in their retirement, their summer home in Big Bay, Mich., and their winter home in Apache Junction, Arizona. Mary was an avid reader, bridge player, and football fan.
Survivors include seven sons, Jim (Jackie) Parent, Wetmore, Mich., Bob Parent, Green Bay, Wis., Steve (Cindy) Parent, New Franken, Wis., David (Lynn) Parent, Green Bay, Wis.; Tom (Judy) Parent and Brian (Jeanette) Parent, both of Niagara, Wis.; and Bruce (Anne) Parent, Crown Pointe, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Craze, Defiance, Ohio.
In addition to her parents and husband of 61 years, James, Mary was preceded in death by two sons, Todd and Donald Parent; one grandson, Timmy Parent; and siblings, Gerald Soucy, Lucille "Biddy" Peterson, Robert "Bob" Soucy, Helen Nardi and Lawrence "Butch" Soucy.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home-Niagara Chapel, Niagara, Wis. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara, Wis. Rev. Fr. Quinn Mann will officiate. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Marquette, Mich., in the spring.
The family would like to thank the staff at Victorian Pines and especially daughter-in-law, Jeanette, as she used her nursing skills to care for Mary these many years.
